I would like to welcome our members and guests. Thank you all for coming to the Chamber’s 9th Annual General Meeting.
I hereby table the following report.
In the past 12 months, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Australia Philippines Inc (CCIAP) has focussed on 3 key areas to better serve our members and to meet our organisation’s objectives.
Annual General Meeting: 20 September 2008
Since the 2007-08 Executive Team was elected in office a year ago, there have been significant events that occurred here in Australia and aboard. To name a few, these included: the rapid rise of the price of oil, the US economic problems, the change of government in Australia and of course the Beijing Olympics. All of these events have economic consequences for business, good or bad.
The Global Economic Crisis and the Philippine Economy

Exports Recover By 6.1 Percent in May

After a three-month slowdown merchandise exports rebounded in May by 6.1 percent, bringing total export revenues to $20.4 billion over the five-month period.
Filipinos in Queensland
More than one hundred years ago, Queensland hosted what could have been Australia’s first Filipino Community.
It was established that a group of Spanish-speaking Filipinos settled sometime in the late 1800s in the Torres Strait. Families with Filipino surnames like Cruz, Cunanan, Caballo, Escober, Pere, Alfonso, Segovia, Belfonte, Cesar and Tolentino were to be found on Thursday Island.
