Philippine Typhoons Appeal
2 October 2009
Dear Members and Friends
Subject: Appeal for the Flood Victims of Typhoons 'Ondoy' and 'Ketsana' that hit the Philippines
It is with deep sadness that I write this letter to you to request your assistance by way of monetary donation for the flood victims of typhoons 'Ondoy' and 'Ketsana' that have recently devasted several parts of the Philippines. The following images convey the extent of human despair due to the lost of loved ones and damages to homes caused by the natural disaster.

Many people have contacted me wishing to donate funds to the flood victims. I also received a communiqué from the Philippine Embessay sent via the office of the Queensland Philippine Consul-General Alan Grummit listing legitimate relief organizations in the Philippines where donations can be directed.
To respond to many requests from good-hearted people and to ensure that funds will reach where they are needed most, CCIAP is coordinating fund raising efforts for the flood victims. Funds are urgently required so your immediate attention to this appeal will be very much appreciated.
There are two ways you can make a monetary donation:
- Send your donation to CCIAP. 100% of donated funds that CCIAP raised will be remitted to the Philippine National Red Cross directly. Please complete the attached ‘CCIAP Typhoon Ondoy Relief Appeal’ form and fax completed form to (07) 3200 7531
- Send your donation by direct remittance to the organization of your choice. See the attached list supplied by the Philippine Embassy. Note that when remitting monies, a remittance fee will apply. I have contacted Best Friends Asian and Philippine Groceries at Fortitude Valley, Queensland who specializes in direct bank remittance service to the Philippines. Mrs Bon de Chavez, the owner of Best Friends, has offered donors with a special remittance fee of $6 per transaction. Their normal fee is $10. (Thank You, Best Friends!)
If you do not wish to make monetary donation, we invite you to participate in CCIAP’s ‘Silent Auction’ which will be held during our November First Mondays Networking Event on 2 November 2009 at our permanent venue (The Coffee Club, Park Road, Milton, Queensland). The November Auction is to give us more time to organize donated items.
To participate in the ‘Silent Auction’ you may donate an auction item/s and/or you may wish to bid at the auction. To donate auction items please contact our secretary by email at
.
Please feel free to pass this letter to your network of friends and business associates.
I wish to thank you in advance for your assistance to the flood victims. May your generosity and kindness be returned in hundred folds of good luck and success in years to come!
Yours sincerely,
Connie da Cunha
